Species: mouse
Mutation name: Zfp191(-/-)
type: null mutation
fertility: embryonic lethal
Comment: The resulting Zfp191+/- heterozygous mutant mice were indistinguishable from their wild-type littermates in viability, growth, development, and fertility. Both male and female Zfp191+/− mice were fertile and produced viable offspring .
At the blastocyst stage, Zfp191−/− embryos were viable and identified at the expected Mendelian frequency. 7.5 and 8.5 days post-coitum, 4 out of 6 Zfp191−/− embryos were visibly retarded in size. Among the 28 E8.5 embryos, all 5 Zfp191−/− embryos were severely retarded in growth.
The high proportion of abnormal embryos indicated that these mutants were homozygous for Zfp191 deletion, and they died at around 7.5 days post-coitum due to impaired cell proliferation.
